I have been taking time to go through earlier playbooks and redesign mechanics and advances in light of some recent playtest feedback and thoughts about player agency prompted by a discussion with friends. Because of this, I decided to give the Umbral Avenger a massive overhaul in terms of its focus and improving the active elements of its kit.
Prior to this overhaul, a lot of the advances for this class felt very passive or not useful until a later point in the class' development. Given Slayers' focus on trying to get combat up and running from the get go, I decided that this did not feel appropriate for a starting point for the playbook. As a result, I have tweaked costs for Abyssal Favors, increased the base damage dealt, and added in more ways to impart the theme of raging/caring avenger through the retooled advances. It is my hope that these changes add a bit more diversity and active components to the class that give more ways to focus your approach to playing the class.
